Overview
A field-oriented BLDC motor controller with CAN bus telemetry developed for demanding industrial and mobile robotics applications.
- Three-phase gate driver with low-Rds half-bridges and bootstrap supply.
- Triple shunt resistors with differential amplifiers for high-accuracy current feedback.
- 168 MHz STM32 MCU running FOC algorithm at 20 kHz PWM update rate.
- Real-time CAN bus telemetry reporting speed, phase current, and fault diagnostics.
- Comprehensive hardware safety protections against overcurrent, stall, and overtemperature.

Challenge
Implementing field-oriented control (FOC) for high-performance BLDC motors running at up to 40,000 RPM.
Solution
Used a high-speed STM32G4 MCU with analog comparators and OPAMPs, dual shunt phase current sensing, and low-Rds gate drivers.
Outcome
Achieved sub-millisecond control loop response with smooth torque delivery and real-time CAN telemetry output.
